Raja Ravi Varma was an Indian painter and artist, known as '' Father of mordern Indian arts'' His works are one of the best examples of the fusion of European academic arts with a purely Indian sensibility and iconography. Especially, he was notable for making affordable Lithographs of his paintings available to the public, which greatly enhanced his reach and influence as a painter and public figure.
The painting titled "50 Historic Meeting" by Raja Ravi Varma depicts the Duke of Buckingham being greeted by Visakham Thirunal, with Ayilyam Thirunal of Travancore looking on, during Buckingham's visit to Thiruvananthapuram, Travancore in the early 1880s.
